The Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) in 2022 was humanity’s first attempt to intentionally crash a spacecraft into an asteroid to change its course.

The impact on the asteroid Dimorphos was indeed powerful enough to reduce the radius of its orbit around the bigger asteroid named Didymos. This so called kinetic impactor technique was tested as a method of a potential planetary defense against Near-Earth Objects (NEOs).
